Volunteering
with the Friends of Prime Hook NWR is a fun and rewarding opportunity
to acquire new knowledge about wildlife and habitats. Volunteer opportunities
are varied and are excellent ways to offer your time and talents.

Not sure what you could offer the refuge as a volunteer? Volunteers
donated over 5400 hours to the refuge last year. Here's an
idea of what they did:
-Staffing
the Visitor Center The
Friends' Store at Prime Hook and visitors center on weekdays
and weekends. Conducting and/or assisting with refuge tours and
interpretive programs. Share knowledge about the refuge and wildlife
with visitors and local school groups./
-Yard
work around the headquarters' area.
-Assisting
with surveys including horseshoe crab surveys, wildlife census and
monitoring of the Delmarva Fox Squirrel.
-Measuring
and recording refuge water levels in various units.
-Assisting
biological staff with gathering and testing samples.
-Assisting
with organizing annual festivals and special events.
-Staffing
information booths at local festivals and events.
-Constructing,
cleaning and repairing wood duck and bluebird nesting boxes.
-Office
assistance including entering data into the refuge computer system.
-Trail
maintenance.
-Building
structures such as the observation platform and the photo blind.
-Designing
and constructing educational displays.
-Constructing
or repairing duck blinds and constructing or repairing
deer stands.

fun all the while!
